Kathryn M. Weber

Kathryn has worked in the field of special education for over 14 years. She graduated from Salve Regina University in Rhode Island, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a dual major in Elementary and Special Education. Kathryn then went on to pursue her Master of Science degree in Special Education from Long Island University in New York. Kathryn began her career with the New York City Department of Education as an elementary special education teacher. She trained in the Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop model, providing differentiated instruction for students in self-contained and inclusion settings. Kathryn successfully created New York State Alternate Assessments for children with significant intellectual disabilities and represented her school during the NYC School Quality Review and Evaluation.

 

Kathryn moved to the Raleigh area in 2011. Most recently, she launched the special education department at a local charter school. Kathryn served as the lead Exceptional Children’s teacher and case manager for students in elementary and middle school. She was responsible for initial referrals, reevaluations, and annual reviews. Kathryn worked closely with team members to establish academic, functional, and social skills instruction and behavior intervention plans for children with Autism, ADHD, and emotional disabilities. Kathryn led numerous professional development trainings on topics such as the IEP process and development, research-based interventions, and progress monitoring. She attended conferences and workshops held by the North Carolina Council for Exceptional Children, Autism Society of North Carolina, and Temple Grandin. In 2016, Kathryn took a leave of absence from education to raise her two young children. She returned to the workforce as an educational consultant in 2019.
